🎓 Education :

I hold a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, completed between 2010 and 2013. My doctoral research focused on geotechnical risk assessment of haulage drifts during the life of a mine plan under the supervision of Prof. Hani S. Mitri. I earned my M.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Assiut University, Egypt, from 2004 to 2007, where I conducted research on drilling parameters in relation to penetration rates as a predictive tool for rock types, supervised by Prof. Mostafa M. El-Beblawy, Prof. Mohamed A. Sayed, and Prof. Mostafa T. Mohamed. My academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Assiut University, Egypt, completed in 2003.

🏢 Experience:

Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor at Taibah University, Saudi Arabia, a position I have held since 2024. Prior to this, I was an Associate Professor at Assiut University, Egypt, from 2021 to 2024, following my tenure as an Assistant Professor at the same institution from 2014 to 2021. I gained international research experience as a Ph.D. candidate and researcher at McGill University, Canada, from 2010 to 2013, and as a Research Assistant at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada, from 2009 to 2010. Early in my career, I worked as a Junior Mining Engineer at ASEC Mining in Egypt from 2007 to 2008 and at Wadico for Mineral Resources & Oil Shale, Egypt, from 2003 to 2004, while also contributing to research as a postgraduate student at Assiut University from 2004 to 2007.

Skills:

I am proficient in various engineering software applications for mining operations, including FLAC, FLAC3D, Rhino CAD, RocScience, RS, and Abaqus. My expertise lies in probabilistic analysis techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulations and PEMs, for geotechnical risk assessment. I have extensive experience in numerical modeling and stability evaluation of mine developments, as well as in developing cost-benefit analyses and risk-index matrices to optimize mining operations. My skills also encompass underground environment monitoring using instrumentation systems, and I have a robust track record of publishing in high-impact journals and conferences. Additionally, I have conducted workshops and training sessions for industry professionals in mining engineering.

Research Focus :

My research is centered on rock mechanics and ground support, tunneling and underground excavation engineering, and geotechnical risk assessment and management. I specialize in probabilistic analysis techniques for mining operations and the application of finite element methods in rock mechanics.

🔬Awards:

I have been recognized with a monetary award from Assiut University in November 2021 for publishing the book Surface Mining Technology through Springer Nature. In March 2015, I received a similar award for publishing two international books, Applications of Finite Element Methods in Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Risk Assessment of Mine Developments in Deep Metal Mines. During my doctoral studies at McGill University, I was honored with the Graduate Student Departmental Scholarship in 2012 and 2013 for outstanding research contributions. In August 2011, I received an award at the First International Symposium on Mine Safety Science & Engineering, organized by the China Academy of Safety & Technology.
