Education :

Amir AlKhafaji is currently pursuing his Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Efficiency at the University of Malaga, Spain (2021 ā€“ present). He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Applied Design from the University of Kashan, Iran (2016 ā€“ 2017), where his thesis focused on “The Effect of Friction Stir Spot Welding Parameters on the Mechanical Properties of AA6061-T6 Aluminum Alloy.” Additionally, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Basrah, Iraq (1988 ā€“ 1992). Amir has also completed various specialized training programs, including wastewater treatment methods, modern engineering practices, and advanced software tools such as Primavera and AutoCAD, which were conducted in Iraq and Italy.

Experience :

Amir has extensive professional experience in mechanical and industrial engineering. He has been serving as the Operation and Maintenance Manager at the Department of Sewerage of Thi-Qar Province, Iraq, since 2007, where he manages projects and oversees the operation and maintenance of sewerage networks, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment plants. From 2004 to 2007, he worked as a Technical Support Engineer, providing maintenance and installation services for industrial machines and control panels. Prior to that, he worked with Salim Kittaneh and Sons Co. in Jordan (2002 ā€“ 2004), focusing on the design, manufacturing, and operation of industrial machinery and control systems. Amir began his career at Nida General State Establishment, Baghdad (1993 ā€“ 1999), specializing in maintaining CNC machines such as SHW, MAHO, and HERMLE, working within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Research Focus :

Amir’s research interests center on improving the mechanical properties and fatigue behavior of aluminum alloys through friction stir spot welding techniques. He has explored the influence of tool geometry, rotational speed, dwell time, and inert gas covers on the mechanical and microstructural properties of AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy. His work has practical applications in materials engineering, particularly in improving the efficiency and reliability of welded joints for industrial use.
